Classical Period

Piano

The piano was created in the classical period, it's full name is pianoforte; meaning soft loud. 

Composers decided that the music must be 'tidy' and therefore musical phrases were vital. It was a common 'rule' that there must be some for of break between sections played or an amount of bars played, this being a regular .

Baroque Opera

The 'birth' of opera was believed to have been in the baroque periods. Opera is the combination of dramatic entertainment and musical entertainment. (A play that is sung) The difference between a musical and an opera is that any conversation or dialogue is sung instead of spoken. 

Types of music that are demonstrated in an opera is as follows:
  • Aria (solo song)
  • Chorus (a choir of people singing together, NOT a section in a piece.
  • Recitative (Half spoken, half sung; sung in the rhythm of a voice pattern.
  • Dance (Instrumental section)
  • Duets/Trios (Couple of people singing...
